Veda + Jonathan | San Francisco Maternity Session

This gorgeous couple brought me out to San Francisco for their maternity session so that they could capture the beauty of their new town in their maternity photos. We got to chatting as we drove around the city, and I asked about their Southern accents and how they ended up here. Originally from Kentucky, Veda and Jonathan picked up one day and said "Let's move to California." And they moved- just like that! Talk about adventurous! They ended up in Sacramento, which is where Veda said she lived when she first found my Instagram, and are now in a beautiful cozy apartment in San Francisco.

We started at the Palace of Fine Arts and got some of gorgeous shots before hopping back in the car and heading to the Marina, which is a neighborhood full of homes with characters (and more importantly, flowers!). My cheeks hurt from laughing so hard every time we would run out into the road for a photo and yet another car would show up and ruin our shot. Veda was such a trooper and didn't complain a single time, even in heels at seven months pregnant!

Jen + Kurt | San Francisco Ocean-side Engagement Session

Jen and Kurt asked me to meet them at Fort Funston where they got engaged. I had never been there before, but I am always up for exploring, so I headed out to San Francisco without much googling so I could just be inspired once I got there. It was 110 degrees at home in Fairfield, so none of us were expecting the thirty degree temperature drop that welcomed us at Fort Funston, but we took it by stride and started shooting at one of the most beautiful places I've been in California. If you know me, you know I have an obsession with being by the ocean, it is the place I am happiest and most at peace. The backdrop of every photo was perfection!

Kurt proposed here a few months back, after a wild day of plans gone awry. By the time he finally got Jen to the ocean, it was so dark she couldn't see the ring! They had such a cute story of how he proposed (or kept wanting to propose but couldn't find the perfect moment). It was so much fun to get to know them and their story and share that through these images.

A Week in Charleston

When you first mention Charleston, a lot of people don't know where it is, which surprises me because it's such an iconic town! (Probably helps that I watch too much tv, as we all know, and one of my favorites films in Charleston- see below for when I met Shep from Southern Charm!!) When my cousin got engaged and planned her wedding in Charleston, where my aunt and uncle live, I instantly started planning my wardrobe. Of course, I didn't actually end up buying anything until a week before, but southern fashion was still on my mind. I will link all my dresses at the bottom of this post!

We were invited to a different event each day, which made all us of so comfortable with the other wedding guests by Saturday evening, and we all had a blast dancing together at the wedding. Each night was something different, like a welcome party at my aunt's amazing home, a cocktail party with a view of Charleston, a bachelorette at Vendu Rooftop, the list goes on! Matt and I spent a day at the Aquarium, which proved to be the very best we have ever been to. It was impeccably clean, the animals were so well taken care of and happy (even the wounded sea turtles they are rehab-ing!)

I've mentioned this in previous blogs, but I am horrible about taking my camera places. We are more of vacation-enjoyers versus documenters, but Matt encouraged me to start bringing a "real camera" places so we will have these memories to look back on and I am so glad I did! A lot of these were taken by iPhone, but the charm of Charleston just radiates no matter what you're shooting with! We totally fell in love with the town and are dying to go back one day. It's a truly, truly beautiful (and humid as hell) experience that we will cherish forever!
